Lafata Second Team All-Region, Rickerman Lands on Third Team

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif Zach Lafata was named Second Team and Clay Rickerman was Third Team to represent Cal Lutheran baseball on the 2023 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-Region teams.

It is the first all-region honor for both Lafata and Rickerman as they were members of the Region 10 team. They are also the first pair of Kingsmen to garner the award since 2017 when the team had four honorees. 

The duo helped the Kingsmen win their sixth, and second consecutive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament Championship. They played in the NCAA tournament for the second straight year. 

Lafata earned Second Team honors at second base. The senior played in 43 games for the Kingsmen. He posted a .339 batting average with an on base percentage of .406 and a slugging percentage of .479. He tallied 56 hits with 11 doubles, three triple, and two home runs. He scored 41 runs and recorded 26 RBI. He stole 21 bases, drew 17 walks and touched 79 total bases. In the field, he had a .967 percentage with 79 put outs and 87 assists.

Rickerman garnered Third Team honors as a pitcher. He made 29 appearances on the mound and picked up eight saves and three wins. He threw 52.2 innings with an earned run average of just 2.73. Opponents had a batting average of .230 as Rickerman recorded 36 strikeouts for 6.15 per game. He gave up just 46 hits and eight walks with only 16 earned runs. In his 200 at bats against, teams had just nine doubles and three home runs.
