Kingsmen Outscore Caltech 30-6 on Saturday, Sweep Beavers

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The pinstriped Cal Lutheran baseball team started off their Saturday doubleheader with a 13-3 triumph over the Caltech Beavers, and secured the sweep with a 17-3 win, on Saturday afternoon. 

Game One
Luke Wechsler stood on the mound for game one. He went six innings, striking out eight Beavers in total. Relieving Weshsler for one inning was Tristan Dupont, tallying two strike outs of his own. Finishing off game one was Dean Olsson, tacking on another two strikeouts.

Sebastian Smith led the Kingsmen with three hits and three RBIs. Joseph Scalzo, Kyle Reuser, Brendan Durfee, and Josh Quinn were right behind Smith with two hits each. 

Finishing up the RBIs in game one was Zach Lafata, Scalzo, and Reuser with two each, and Max Heverly, Jalen Parks, and Durfee all had one.

Game Two 
Following a short intermission, John Frazier started for the Kingsmen and pitched 5.0 innings. Max Kendall relieved him for the last two and finished the game. The Kingsmen's explosive bats sent the Beavers home after seven innings. 

Heverly had a great afternoon at the plate tallying two doubles in game two and three RBIs. Sean Blandino recorded two RBIs of his own, one coming from his home run to right field in the bottom of the fifth. 

Nathan Nykaza got his name on the board with an RBI in a five-run sixth inning. Joining him on the stat sheet was Ryan Farr with another two RBIs. To complete the scoring plays, Scalzo tallied an RBI, Reuser tacked on three more, and Lafata added another two. 

The Kingsmen are back on the diamond on Tuesday at Whittier for a non-conference contest. First pitch is at 3pm.
