ORANGE, Calif. — Cal Lutheran baseball finished the regular season with a doubleheader at Champan on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers won the first game, 10-0, and the second, 8-3.

The Kingsmen finished the season with a 25-15 overall record and are 16-8 in conference. They will play in the SCIAC Tournament on May 11-14.

Game One
The Panthers looked to rebound after a tough Friday. They started strong and scored two runs of Kingsmen started Luke Wechsler in the bottom of the first. It was an unfortunate bottom of the second as two errors allowed the Panthers to score four runs and take a commanding lead.

Wechsler and the defense settled down after that. He shutout the Panthers in the third and fourth innings. He went 5.1 innings with eight hits and seven runs. Only three of the runs were earned. The Panthers got to the Kingsmen relief pitchers and scored one in the fifth and three in the seventh. They held Cal Lutheran silent and took the first game 10-0 in seven innings. Kyle Reuser and Brendan Durfee had two hits each.

Game Two
Chapman carried the momentum into the second game and jumped all over Kingsmen pitcher John Frazier. The Panthers scored three runs in the first and two in the second as they led 5-0 after three innings.

The Kingsmen fired back in the fourth. Sean Blandino got the scoring going with a home run. Durfee doubled scoring Zach Lafata and Nathan Nykaza hit a sacrifice fly bringing home Reuser. It helped Cal Lutheran chip into the lead as they trailed 5-3 after four. The Kingsmen tried to creep back into the game even more and had runners on the corners in the sixth, but could not get any runs home.

The Panthers added to their lead in the seventh and went up 8-3. The Kingsmen would not get any closer as the Panthers took the game and the series.
