Lafata Hits for Cycle, Kingsmen Mash Four Home Runs in Dominating Win Over Caltech

PASADENA, Calif. Zach Lafata hit for the cycle, Sean Blandino, Josh Quinn, and Kyle Reuser all added a home run, and Cal Lutheran baseball dominated Caltech 16-5 on Friday afternoon.  

Lafata singled in the third inning, and scored, for Cal Lutheran's first run of the game. He doubled in a five-run fourth inning as the Kingsmen went up 6-3. He added a solo shot to start the sixth inning and only needed a triple to complete the cycle. After her singled in the seventh, he made it 5-for-5 on the day as he tripled in the eighth. 

Up 6-3, the Kingsmen scored two runs in the sixth, four in the seventh, and three in the eighth. They recorded 20 hits and opened the series with a big win. 

Max Heverly and Sebastian Smith led the way with three RBI each. Blandino, Lafata, Quinn, and Reuser added two more each. Heverly recorded  four hits and Joseph Scalzo added a double.

The Kingsmen used three pitchers as Chris Torres, Clay Rickerman and Bryan Tierney all saw action. Torres went 3.0 innings and gave up five hits and two earned runs. Rickerman got the win, moving to 2-0, and pitched 3.2 innings with four hits and three earned runs. Tierney closed out the game with 2.1 innings. He pitched to perfection and had three strikeouts. 

Nine different Kingsmen recorded at least a hit, seven scored at least one run, and the Kingsmen improved to 11-2 in conference and 16-8 overall. 

The Kingmens and Beavers continue the series tomorrow. Cal Lutheran hosts Caltech for a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
