CLAREMONT, Calif. Brendan Durfee hit a two-run home run, Chris Torres, Bryan Tierney, and Clay Rickerman did the rest on the mound, and Cal Lutheran baseball picked up a 3-2 win at Pomona-Pitzer on Friday afternoon.

With the win, the Kingsmen improve to 14-5 in conference play and are 19-12 overall. With Chapman defeating top-ranked La Verne this afternoon, the top of the conference continues to be very tight.

Torres started on the mound for the Kingsmen. He pitched for seven innings and faced 29 batters. He allowed seven hits, with just one earned run, and four strikeouts. He got his fifth win of the season.

The Kingsmen started strong as Durfee homered to right field, giving his team an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second. The Sagehens closed the gap as they scored a run in the bottom of the fifth. The Kingsmen managed to bring in another run at the top of the seventh inning. Max Heverly was on second base and advanced to third, and then scored, after a wild pitch.

Tierney took to the mound next as he pitched for 1.1 innings. He allowed one hit and one run. Rickerman followed and came in for the final two outs. He picked up his fifth save as he shut down the Sagehens.
