Lafata, Rickerman Named First Team All-SCIAC; Durfee, Wechsler Earn Second Team

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. Zach Lafata and Clay Rickerman were named First Team All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and Brendan Durfee and Luke Wechsler were named Second Team, the conference announced Thursday morning. 

The quartet leads Cal Lutheran Baseball into the SCIAC Tournament as the No. 4 Kingsmen are at No. 1 La Verne today at 3 pm. 

Lafata (Mililani, Hawaii) earned his first All-SCIAC accolade and was named First Team. The senior played in all 24 conference games at second base. He had a batting average of .341 with 30 hits. He recorded two home runs, two triples, and seven doubles. He had 18 RBI and scored 23 times. He added eight walks, was hit by pitch four times, and only had three strikeouts. He had an on base percentage of .408 and a slugging percentage of .534. He has a .979 fielding percentage with 47 putouts, 46 assists, and 13 double plays. 

Rickerman (Granada Hills, Calif.) garnered his first All-SCIAC honor and landed on First Team. The senior is a relief pitcher and appeared in 11 conference games. He recorded five saves and two wins, while pitching 23.2 innings. He recorded 14 strikeouts, to just three walks, and had a .274 batting average against. He had an impressive earned run average of 2.66 with 5.32 strikeouts per game. 

Durfee (Monrovia, Calif.) earned the second All-SCIAC honor of his career and was selected Second Team. The junior played in all 24 conference games as catcher or designated hitter. He had a batting average of .300 with a .440 on base percentage and .512 slugging percentage. He had 24 hits with three home runs, one triple, and six doubles. He had 19 RBI and scored 18 runs. He recorded a .992 fielding percentage with 115 put outs and 15 assists. 

Wechsler (Santa Barbara, Calif.) was selected All-SCIAC for the first time in his career and made Second Team. The sophomore started eight conference games on the mound and picked up four wins. He pitched 50.1 innings with 38 strikeouts to just five walks. He struck out 6.79 batters per game with a .276 batting average against. He recorded an earned run average of 3.58.
