THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran baseball scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning and completed a Senior Day comeback against Chapman on Friday afternoon.

Down 7-3, the Kingsmen had another special moment at George Sparky Anderson Field and Ullman Stadium. The offense exploded for six hits and five runs, and took the game 8-7.

The Kingsmen opened the ninth inning with three hits, the first was a triple from Max Heverly. Jalen Parks was up next and singled to score the first run. A few batters later, Zach Lafata singled, scoring Zach Ritter. The bats kept rolling as Kyle Reuser singled to make it a one-run game. After Brendan Durfee walked, loading the bases, Joseph Scalzo singled in the tying run. Josh Quinn had the final at-bat, and was hit by a pitch, which gave the Kingsmen a walk-off.

The Kingsmen recorded 15 hits, led by Sean Blandino with four. Lafata added three and Heverly and Parks had two each. Reuser led the squad with two RBI and Lafata, Durfee, Scalzo, Quinn, Parks, and Sebastian Smith each had one.

Chris Torres started the game on the mound and went 5.1 innings. He struck out seven, but gave up 10 hits and five earned runs. Bryan Tierney was next and went 2.2 innings with two strikeouts. Clay Rickerman got the win as he pitched the ninth with one strikeout.

The Kingsmen have one final doubleheader in the regular season. They currently sit in the No. 3 seed for the conference tournament, just one game back of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. CMS plays La Verne in their doubleheader. With a Kingsmen sweep of Chapman, and La Verne taking one game from CMS, the Kingsmen can move up to the No. 2 spot. Cal Lutheran's doubleheader is at Chapman and starts at 11 a.m.
