LOS ANGELES — Sophia Muller recorded 14 kills, Sadie Peete added 13 more and Cal Lutheran women's volleyball won its fourth straight game, sweeping the Occidental Tigers on Tuesday night.
Scores of the match were 25-14, 27-25, 25-22. The Regals started conference play with a win and are now 5-6 on the season. This is the third straight game the Violet and Gold have swept their opponent.
Muller recorded the match-high in kills and added seven digs, two aces and two block assists. Peete recorded her career-high in kills while hitting with a .500 percentage.
Maci Haddad continued her impressive run and recorded eight kills with an attack percentage of .471. She added four total blocks and one ace. Kennedy Crane was next with six kills.
Tess Holbert was one dig shy of a double-double with 31 assists and nine digs. Julia Trento recorded the most digs and had 14 to go along with four aces and three aces.
The Regals jumped all over the Tigers in the first set and were up 12-2 after a Crane kill capped off a nine-point run. Cal Lutheran ran away with the first and looked to carry that momentum over to the second set.
Occidental was thiniing up set as it took a 20-19 lead. The game was then tied at 21, 22, 23, and 24, before the Tigers went up 25-24. Cal Lutheran shut Occidental down after that. Haddad and Kira Mortensen recorded back-to-back kills and Mortenson and Muller then combined for a block to win the game.
In the third set, down 16-13, the Regals made their move. They scored seven straight to get back in the game. The Tigers fought right back and went up 21-20. The Regals made their final move, scoring four straight, and then won the game and the match.
Cal Lutheran will play for five straight wins at home on Friday night, as they host their annual Aces for ALS game. The donations will support the mission of the Golden West Chapter of The ALS Association. The match is set for 7 p.m.
