Regals Face Tough Task on Saturday; Fall to No. 7 NYU, Drop Five-Setter to UC Santa Cruz

CLAREMONT, Calif.  On day two of the Pacific Coast Classic, Cal Lutheran women's volleyball was defeated by No. 7 New York U. 3-0, and then fell 3-2 to UC Santa Cruz. The Saturday matches concluded the 2022 Pacific Coast Classic. 

NYU 3, CLU 0 -  21-25, 16-25, 22-25
Maci Haddad recorded 11 kills, and hit with a percentage of .647, as New York U. looked to shut down the rest of the Regals. Miranda Chan was next with eight kills and Sophia Muller had five.

Tess Holbert started the match and tallied 16 assists while Jalyn Chun came off the bench and had seven. Julia Trento had double-digit kills for the third straight game to start the year and tallied 11. 

UCSC 3, CLU 2 – 25-19, 25-27, 22-25, 25-16, 17-19
Haddad connected on 24 kills and hit with a very respectable .347 clip. Muller was one kill shy of double-digits and Chan had five. Tess Holbert recorded her fourth double-double, and second of the year, with 30 assists and 12 digs. 

The Regals recorded a plethora of blocks as Haddad and Kira Mortensen both had six and Holbert had four.

The Regals continue the season next weekend for the East*West Classic in Atlanta, Georgia. The Regals kick off the tournament with Texas-Dallas on Friday at 8:30 a.m. PST.
