Regals Improve to 9-2 in SCIAC, Shut Down Beavers

PASADENA, Calf. — Cal Lutheran's women's volleyball shut down the Caltech Beavers 3-1 on Tuesday night. Scores for the match were 25-22, 22-25, 25-18, 25-7.

The victory brings the Regals' record to 9-2 in conference and 12-8 overall. This is the second win in a row for Cal Lutheran, starting a new streak. 

Cal Lutheran fought hard as the Regals recorded a total of 57 kills, 141 team attacks, for a hitting percentage of .298. The defense also held strong as they made 62 digs. 

Maci Haddad led the charge as she made the first kill in the first set. She was quickly followed by Julia Trento, Kennedy Crane, Sophia Muller, Miranda Chan, Sadie Peete, and Kira Mortensen. Together they made a total of 15 kills, narrowly taking the first set from the Beavers. 

Caltech came back with a vengeance as they took the second set and tied the game. 

The Regals shook off the loss and returned unperturbed. Muller led the way as she made the first kill. Cal Lutheran kept the momentum going and made 12 more kills, four of which came in a row towards the end of the set. The Regals claimed the third set, taking back the lead.

Cal Lutheran finished strong as they bulldozed the Beavers in the final set. The Regals finished off Caltech with 12 more kills and an overwhelming final score of 25-7. 

Muller led the way with 13 kills and Mortensen added 11 more and hit with an incredible attack percentage of .733. 

Jalyn Chun and Tess Holbert split time at the setter position. Chun had 20 assists and eight digs while Holbert had 19 assists, three digs and one service ace.

Muller and Trento came up clutch on defense as the duo recorded 17 digs each. 

The next game for the Regals is back home against Pomona-Pitzer on Friday at 7 p.m.
