Regals Record Best Start Since 2009

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's tennis got off to a brilliant start in 2020 as they won their first four contests to match their best start to a season since 2009.

The Regals (6-3, 0-2 SCIAC) saw their season come to an abrupt end after concerns about COVID-19 halted their run.

Led by seniors JoAnn Taylor and Jade Moore, CLU were poised to grab their second straight winning season under Head Coach Mike Gennette.

The NCAA announced that they will grant a year of eligibility for spring sport student-athletes who saw their seasons cut short in 2020, however, it is likely that the two seniors have worn the Purple and Gold for the final time.

Taylor (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) enjoyed a solid two-year career at Cal Lutheran after transferring from Orange Coast College. In her first season competing as a Regal, Taylor competed in 18 singles matches and 22 doubles matches. She went 10-8 overall in singles and managed a five-match win streak during the campaign. The senior improved in her second season with the squad, going 6-2 in doubles with her partner Joslin Seaberg

Moore (Littleton, Colo.) came to CLU after transferring from Division II William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. In her first season wearing the Purple and Gold, Moore double-bageled her opponent in her debut and went on to tally three wins on the year. Moore competed in four singles matches and two doubles matches as a junior, going 2-2 in singles play.

Cal Lutheran hopes to regroup with their young core of returners for the 2021 season, looking to improve upon a successful beginning to their 2020 campaign.
