Regals Taken Down by No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Cal Lutheran traveled to face the top team in the nation, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, and struggled against the talented Athenas as the hosts walked away with a 9-0 sweep.

The Regals (6-2, 0-2 SCIAC) were presented with a tough task to knock off the undefeated Athenas (11-0, 3-0 SCIAC). The doubles competition began with JoAnn Taylor and Joslin Seaberg leading the charge, but were defeated 8-1 in the first match of the day.

Carolina Groff Hinojosa and Sophia Gawrit fought hard in one of the most competitive matches of the day but were edged 8-4 in number three doubles.

Brennan Foreman and Lilijana Peters-Semak occupied the number one and two spots in the singles competition but fell in a couple close matches. Heidi Levanen also competed on the singles side but dropped her match as well.

Gawrit capped off the day with another very tightly contested match, but was eventually defeated 6-4, 6-3.

The Regals hope to get back in the win column Mar. 8 at 12 p.m. when they host Hardin-Simmons at the Poulson Tennis Courts
