THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – California Lutheran University women's lacrosse get their second shot at a first season in 2022 after their expected first season in 2020 was cancelled.
The Regals also did not play in 2021 and are excited for another crack at a first season. Head Coach Laura McIntyre is at the helm and is ready to see her team back on the field.
Roster | Schedule
The Regals start the season this Saturday and host Whittier at 11 a.m. We talked with Coach McIntyre about the upcoming season.
Because of the past two years, 2022 will be the first complete season for the Regals Lacrosse program. What are your thoughts on finally seeing the team out there for a full year?
I'm thrilled to have the chance to finally get back to action with this group for a full season. It's been a long and challenging time to wait so I'm excited to see our next evolution.
The returners are the first faces of the Lacrosse program, what can you say about them going into the new season?
It's been a long haul for our first Regals, they've been through a lot and I cannot wait to see them finally get the chance to put things together on the field again. They've worked hard through a wide variety of obstacles and haven't had the opportunities I wish they could have had to play. I know they are looking forward to being on the field again and I can't wait to see them in action. Sloan Sanders and Skylar Purvis, our captains, will bring the leadership we need on and off the field.
You've put a lot of work into recruiting, which new faces should fans be looking out for?
I'm excited for all of our new faces to be honest. It's been so great to bring in our first years, that have been waiting to see the field as well. We're adding to each unit on the field. Emma Jobs and Hena Koeberl will make a big impact in the midfield, adding speed and great vision all over. Malina Diaz will bring added intensity to our defensive unit too. I'm looking forward to see all of our first years really jump in and make a splash this season. It's hard to just name a few since I'm excited about everyone. They all have such great potential and we won't know who will really stand out until we get into game mode.
What can you tell us about your schedule, what games are you looking forward to?
All of them!! We've only had 6 games total in my career here, so I'm looking forward to every chance we get to be on the field and compete. We've got some good out of town competition coming in from the pacific northwest that will be a good challenge for us outside of the conference.
What can we expect from Regals Lacrosse in 2022?
You can expect for us to improve each time we're on the field. Learning and growing with every game and chance we get to play is all part of our evolution as a team, and is always my hope as a coach. We will be persistent in reaching our goals, and resilient in the face of challenges. You'll see our first statistical records this season and hopefully our first wins. It will be an exciting year to make history with each game we play.
