Regals Continue to Add First in 18-4 Loss to Chapman

ORANGE, Calif. – California Lutheran Women's Lacrosse was on the road for their first away game of the 2022 season against the Panthers of Chapman University. The Regals controlled more draws and picked up more ground balls than their first game of the season, but the Panthers came away with an 18-4 victory.

Chapman jumped out to a 3-0 lead before senior captain Sloan Sanders took advantage of an 8m attempt for the first goal of her career. The Panthers scored the next four goals to finish the first quarter up 7-1.

In the second quarter, the Panthers picked up another three goals for a 10-1 lead when sophomore Giselle Bonilla split a double team left of the goal and beat the goalie for her first collegiate goal. Chapman had netted two more when freshman Hena Koeberl fired from two steps inside the 8m for her team leading third goal of the season.

The game went into the halftime break with Chapman leading 13-3.

The third quarter was a battle of defensive stands as only two goals were scored. Chapman found the back of the net twice to increase their advantage to 15-3.

The Panthers scored the first goal of the fourth. In a 3-16 deficit, Giselle Bonilla beat her defender by spinning over her right shoulder and finding the back of the net for her second goal of the game. Chapman would score the final two goals of the game for a final score of 18-4.

In goal for the Regals, Cameron Mendez had 12 saves while sophomore Mia Deck started the first game of her career in goal and picked up her first save.

The Regals will be back at home on Monday to take on Albion College at 7:00pm.
