Regals Ninth at PLNU Sea Lion Invitational

SAN DIEGO — The Cal Lutheran women's golf team started its spring season with a ninth-place finish at the PLNU Sea Lion Invitational which was held at Rancho Bernardo II G.C on Monday and Tuesday.

The tournament featured 11 teams, many of which were Division II schools, and 56 players with 18 holes on each day. 

Freshman Claire Cornejo was the top finisher for the Regals as she tied for 34th. She shot an 82 in the first round and an 86 in the second to finish at 24-over-par with 168 strokes. 

Seniors Erica Mitchell and Brooke Logsdon were right behind Cornejo. Mitchell tied for 38th and 27-over-par with 171 strokes (83-88), while Logsdon placed 40th at 28-over-par and tallied 172 strokes (87-85).

Sophomore Grace Cornejo rounded out the team score tied for 44th at 31-over-par. She shot an 86 in the first round and 89 in the second for a total of 175. 

Freshman Tara Ng also competed for the Regals and placed 46th at 34-over-par. She finished with 178 strokes after shooting a 95 and then an 83. 

The Regals finished ninth in their first event of the spring. Cal Lutheran shot a 338 in the first and a 342 in the second as the Purple and Gold finished with 680 strokes at 104-over-par. 

Cal Lutheran continues the season with conference play. The first leg of the SCIAC Championships, SCIAC #1, is Feb. 22-23 in  San Dimas, Calif., at the Via Verde C.C.
