Regals Take Second; All Five Individuals Finish in Top-11

BREMERTON, Wash. — The Cal Lutheran women's golf was one stroke shy of winning the Puget Sound Invitational as the Regals finished runner-up at the two-day tournament which was hosted Saturday and Sunday at the Gold Mountain Golf Club. 

The tournament featured seven teams and 35 individuals. The teams shot 18 holes on Saturday and another 18 on Sunday. The par for the course was 72. 

The Regals were impressive and their comeback on Sunday fell just one-stroke short to the winning team, Lewis & Clark College (309-328-637). Cal Lutheran shot 316 strokes on day one and was second going into the final 18 holes. The Regals shot the best of any team on day two and fired off 322 strokes. The Violet and Gold finished the tournament at 62-over-par and as the runner-up. Whitworth rounded out the top-three at 79-over-par (329-326-655).

Four Regals placed in the top-10 and all five golfers finished in the top-11.  

Ally Gaskill turned in the top score for Cal Lutheran. She tied for third as she fired a two-round score of 157. She shot a 78 (6-over-par) on Saturday and 79 on Sunday as she put up a mark of 13-over-par. 

Brooke Logsdon turned in the second-best finish for the Regals and placed sixth. She shot the best-round of any Cal Lutheran golfer as she recorded a 76 on Saturday. She shot an 82 on Sunday and finished at 14-over-par with 158 strokes.

Rounding out the team score was Erica Mitchell and Lauren Fesler. Mitchell tied for seventh with a two-round score of 161. She shot 82 strokes on Saturday and 79 strokes on Sunday and finished her tournament at 17-over-par. Fesler was the fourth Regal in the top-10 as she placed 10th. She tallied an 80 on day one and an 82 on day two. She finished at 18-over-par with 162 strokes.

Chloe Barnes rounded out the five for Cal Lutheran and tied for 11thout of the 35 golfers. She shot an 83 and 82 on the two days, respectively. She finished with 165 strokes and was 21-over-par. 

The UPS Invitational was the final tournament of the fall for Cal Lutheran. The Regals begin their spring season Feb., 4-5, at the Point Loma Invitational.
