Regals Compete in First Tournament of 2018

VENTURA, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran women's golf team opened 2018 by hosting the CA State Intercollegiate which was held Monday and Tuesday at Olivas Links Golf Club. Ally Gaskill led the Regals and tied for 10thas she shot a two-round score of 150 (+6).

The tournament featured 12 teams and 62 individuals. The par for the course was 72. The teams played 18 holes each day.

Gaskill opened the tournament with an 18-hole score of 74 (+2). She followed that up with a 76 and finished at 6-over-par. She ended her tournament tied for 10th.

Erica Mitchell paced CLU with the second top score. She posted a 74 in her first round and a 77 in her second. She recorded a 36-hole score of 151 (+7) and tied for 14th.

Brooke Logsdon competed as an individual and had the third-best score for a Regal. She had the best-round score out of anyone on the team as she finished with a 73 on the first 18. She followed that up with an 82 on Tuesday and tied for 22ndwith a score of 155 (+11).

Chloe Barnes and Lauren Fesler rounded out the team score and finished tied for 32ndand tied for 48th, respectively. Barnes fired a 78 and an 80 as she finished with a score of 158 (+14). Fesler shot an 83 and then an 85 and tallied a score of 168 (+24). 

Grace Cornejo and Bryttney Avella also competed for the Violet and Gold. Cornejo shot an 83 and followed it up with an 87 as recorded a score of 170 (+26) and tied for 50th. Avella had a two-round score of 179 (+35) as she shot an 89 and 90 to place 59th.

Point Loma won the team title and was the only team to shoot under 300 for both rounds. They finished the tournament at Even with a two-round score of 576 (292-284). George Fox University was second and finished at 24-over-par (300-300-600). Pomona-Pitzer rounded out the top-three with a score of 25-over-par (298-303-601. 

Point Loma had the two top finishers individually. Alli Kim took home individual medalist honors at 8-under-par (69-67-136) and teammate Christine Perez was the runner up at Even (73-71-144). Pomona-Pitzer's Sophia Hui was third at 2-over-par (70-76-146).

Cal Lutheran has one more tournament during the fall season. The Regals travel to Bremerton, Wash., for the UPS Invitational, Sept. 29-30, at the Gold Mountain Golf Club.
