Regals Fourth After 36 holes at SCIAC Championships

CHINO HILLS, Calif. —  After the first 36 holes of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships, Cal Lutheran currently sits in the fourth spot at 76-over-par, led by senior Ally Gaskill as she tied for 10th at 16-over-par. The SCIAC #1 was played at the Los Serranos Golf Course which had a Par of 72.

The SCIAC Championships consist of seven rounds of golf, at three different locations. The SCIAC #1 was the first leg and played Saturday and Sunday. The next 36 holes are on April 6-7 and the final three rounds are April 18-20.

As a team, CLU was second in scoring average on Par-5 holes at 5.53 and third on Par-4's with 4.66.  The Regals shot a 333 one day one and recorded a 319 on day two for a total of 652. The 319 strokes in the second round was the fourth-best round at the event. 

Gaskill tied for 10thwith 160 strokes to lead the Regals. She recorded an 82 on Saturday and improved on Sunday as she tallied a 78. She tied for 10thon Par-3's with a scoring average of 3.25 and added two birdies.  

Every Cal Lutheran golfer had a better outing on the second day of competition as CLU looked to keep pace with the other top teams in the SCIAC. After a tough outing on Saturday, shooting an 84, junior Hannah Pasco matched Gaskill with a 78 on day two. She finished with 162 strokes and tied for 14th. She tied for the fifth-best scoring average on Par-5 holes with 5.25.

Senior Lauren Fesler shot a 21-over-par as she tied for 20th. She recorded an 84 on Saturday and an 81 on Sunday. She tied with Gaskill on Par-3 scoring and then recorded the 10th-most pars with a 3.25 and 18, respectively. 

Junior Chloe Barnes was next for CLU and was 27th. She shot an 89 on day one and bounced back to fire an 82 on her second round of 18 holes to finish with 171 strokes (27-over-par). Freshman Grace Cornejo tied for 28th as she got her first taste of SCIAC action. She finished the first two rounds at 28-over par after shooting an 89 and 83, respectively. 

Redlands' Kendall Nicholson is in the lead after two rounds of play and sits at 7-over-par (77-74-151). Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Mira Yoo (76-79-155) and Whittier's Taylor Beckwith (78-78-156) round out the top three. 

CMS has the team lead through 36 holes at 51-over-par (310-317-627). The Athenas were the only team to shoot under 320 strokes for both rounds. Redlands is second at 58–over-par (321-313-634) and Pomona-Pitzer is third with 64–over-par (317-323-640). The Bulldogs jumped the Sagehens for the second spot on day two.  The Regals are close behind at 76-over-par.

Up next for the Regals is the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout hosted by CSU East Bay. Cal Lutheran will travel to Alameda, Calif., and play at the Corica Park South Course.
