Jones, Kyaw Garner All-America Scholar

NORMAN, Okla. —  Cal Lutheran juniors Drake Jones and Ryan Kyaw both earned the Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar award, announced by the Golf Coach Association of America (GCAA).

It is a second straight year that a duo of Kingsmen golfers have garnered the award and the first time in program history it has happened in back-to-back years. Last year, both Stefan Nelson and Jake Rosen made the cut. 

Jones (Exeler, Calif.) has a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.28 while majoring in physics. In his three years at Cal Lutheran, he has competed in 22 tournaments. He has helped the Kingsmen win two tournaments, and individually, has finished in the top-20 four times. His best tournament was a fourth-place finish. In the CLU record books, he is a member of the team that tied for the lowest round in program history (281 strokes) and is on the second-lowest scoring team for 36-hole score (572). 

Kyaw (Tarzana, Calif.) has a 3.83 GPA and is majoring in mathematics. He has played in every tournament, 25, since joining the Kingsmen golf team. Kyaw helped the Kingsmen win two tournaments, and individually, has finished in the top-10 of eight tournaments. In 2017-18, he was named First Team All-SCIAC. In the CLU record books, he is tied for sixth in lowest round with a score of 67. He is also tied for fourth in 36-hole score (140) and tied for sixth in lowest 54-hole score (216).  He is a member of the team that set the program record for lowest 54-hole score with 857 strokes. 

It was a record setting year for the award as 614 student-athletes earned the title of All-America Scholar, the most since the awards inception in 1982. Of the 614 honorees, 376 players were Division I selections, 99 in Division II, 108 in Division III, 18 from NAIA, and 12 from NJCAA. 2020 marks the first year in which Sophomores are eligible for the award.

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. For 2019-20 only, they must participate in 40% of the team's competitive rounds
