Kingsmen Golfers Finished Top-10 in Every Tournament This Year

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's golf sat third in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) race, just 12 strokes out of second, before the season came to an end.

The Kingsmen had optimism and momentum heading into the second half of the spring season. With the team finishing bronze in back-to-back tournaments, the Purple and Gold were ready to challenge for the SCIAC crown.

With seniors Stefan Nelson and Craig Thorlakson leading the way, the Kingsmen won the CA State Intercollegiate with a score of 7-under-par.

CLU placed third two times and turned in two more top-five finishes on the year. Individually, the Kingsmen had at least one place in the top-10 for every tournament. Cal Lutheran showed it could play with the top teams in the nation and received votes in the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) rankings.

Nelson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) competed for Kingsmen golf all four years. In 2018-19, he was named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar. He competed in 15 tournaments for the Kingsmen with his best finish being a tie for 13th. He also placed in the top-20 three times in 2019-20. He is a member of the CLU Scholar-Athlete Society.

Thorlakson (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) competed in six tournaments during his four-year career with the Kinsgmen. His best finish at a tournament was a tie for 24th at the CA State Intercollegiate. During the same tournament in the 2018-19 season, Thorlakson helped the Kingsmen take bronze. In two duals with Chapman, he tied for second and placed third.

The Kingsmen lose some leadership, however, they have lots of fire power coming back next year as they look to contend for a SCIAC championship.
