BEAUMONT, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's golf sits third, led by Jeffrey Perry in eighth and Ryan Kyaw as he tied for ninth at the SCIAC #1 which was held Saturday and Sunday at the Tukwet Canyon Champions Course.
The SCIAC #1 is the first leg of the SCIAC Championships and there were 18 holes each day. The championships consist of seven rounds. All of the SCIAC schools, minus Caltech, had six golfers, with the top four counting towards the team score.
Competing for the third-place Kingsmen was Perry, Kyaw, Zac Stout, JP Guimaraes Jr., Derek Hahn and Stefan Nelson. Cal Lutheran shot 12-over-par and was in third after day one with 300 strokes. The Purple and Gold followed it up with 310 strokes and remained in third at 34-over-par, 26 strokes behind the leader and 12 strokes out of second.
Four Kingsmen finished in the top-15 with Perry holding down the top spot. Perry fired a 1-under-par 71 during the first round and was fourth. He had a tough second day as he recorded an 80 and fell back to eighth place with 151 strokes. Perry led the Kingsmen with 22 Pars and added six birdies.
Kyaw was next and his rough day was the first as he tallied an 80. He improved on day two, firing a 72, and moved up 21 spots. After the two rounds, he had 152 strokes and is tied for ninth. Kyaw was second on the team with 20 Pars and tallied five birdies
Guimaraes and Stout rounded out the team score as the duo tied for 13th with 155 strokes. Guimaraes shot 77, 78, while Stout recorded a 75 and 80. Stout led the Kingsmen with eight birdies and Guimaraes was next with seven.
Hahn and Nelson also tied and carded scores of 161, good for 28th place. Hahn had 81,80, and Nelson tallied 77, 84.
The Kingsmen continue the SCIAC Championships with the second leg, two more rounds, April 4-5. Up next for CLU is the Schreiner University Invitational on March 9-10, in San Antonio, Texas.
