KERRVILLE, Texas — Cal Lutheran men's golf placed third, led by Derek Hahn in fifth, as the Kingsmen competed in the Schreiner Spring Shootout, held Monday and Tuesday at Comanche Trace – Hills/Creeks.
The tournament featured 11 teams and 59 individuals, totaling 36 holes with a Par of 72. The Kingsmen fired a 1-over-par 289 over the final 18 holes, moving up to third place as they grabbed bronze.
CLU shot a 302 in the first round and improved with the 289 in the second as they totaled 591 strokes for a score of 15-over-par. The Purple and Gold were just 11 strokes behind the champion, Concordia University (Texas). CLU finished third for the second straight tournament.
Hahn had the best finish of his freshman season and led the Kingsmen as he placed fifth. Hahn fired a 2-under par 70 in the final round, to hold down the fifth spot. He shot a 74 in the first round and finished Even with 144 strokes.
Zac Stout made it two Kingsmen in the top-10 as he tied for 10th with 148 strokes. He fired a 71 on the final day as he moved up 11 spots. He shot 77 in the first round and totaled 148 strokes for his tournament and finished 4-over-par.
Jeffrey Perry was consistent over his two rounds as he totaled 150 strokes and tied for 12th at 6-over-par. He shot a 74 over the first 18 holes and had a 76 over the second as three Kingsmen finished in the top-15.
Ryan Kyaw rounded out the team score and tied for 20th with 153 strokes. He shot a 77 and 76 in the first and second rounds, respectively, and finished 9-over-par.
JP Guimaraes Jr. fired Even over the final 18 holes, moving up 18 spots and tied for 28th. He had a tough start to his start and totaled 83 strokes, giving him 155 strokes and a score of 11-over-par.
The Kingsmen have a few weeks off before getting back on the course. Cal Lutheran's next tournament is on March 23-24 for the UCSD Invitational at La Costa C.C. in Carlsbad.
