THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. Kyle Ferreira scored a game-high 25 points, but a late rally came up just short for the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen, and the Lewis & Clark Pioneers escaped with a 70-64 win Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers (4-7) held the Kingsmen (2-5) to 28 rebounds and hauled in 40 of their own. Sixteen of which were offensive rebounds. Lewis & Clark outscored Cal Lutheran in the paint and off turnovers with 44 and 16, respectively. The Kingsmen had 26 points in the paint and 10 points off turnovers.

Ferreira had his second-highest scoring output of the season. He has scored double-digits in every game and has scored 20-plus in five of the seven games this year. For the season, he is averaging 22.6 points per game while shooting 51.9-percent. He continued his stellar all-around play and had five rebounds and five assists.

Austin Cole was next with 12 points. He has scored double-digits in five straight games. He added four rebounds and two assists.

Cole Thomas saw his first action of the year and came off the bench to score nine points. He was 2-for-2 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free throw line. He tallied two blocks.

The game had 10 ties and 15 lead changes. The largest lead of the game was seven points. With 8:21 left in the first half, the Pioneers built that seven-point lead and were up 23-16. Cal Lutheran fought back and tied up the game at 25 after a Ferreira three. Both teams made runs down the final stretch of the half and Lewis & Clark held a 36-35 advantage.

The second half continued with the back-and-forth play and Cal Lutheran had its biggest lead, 44-40, with 14:13 left. The Pioneers took the lead right back over the next few minutes.
