THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran's Austin Cole and Kyle Ferreira represented the Kingsmen on a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Senior All-Star Team which traveled to France for a nine-day trip as they took on four European teams and explored the area.
The team consisted of only SCIAC senior men's basketball players and the head coach was Whittier's Mark Jackson. Proactive Sports Tours led the trip along with two tour guides that planned the itinerary.
The SCIAC seniors went 3-1 on the trip, defeating pro teams, Basket Paris, Alerte Juvisy Basket Essonne and Montpellier Mosson, before falling to Sorgues. The team had numerous practices and scrimmages leading up to the trip as they worked on offensive and defensive sets and got used to playing with each other.
On the off days, the players went to the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Louvre Museum, bike tours, boat ride on the Seine River, the Notre Dame, all in Paris. From there they took a bullet train to Montpellier on the southern coast of France. They went to a vineyard and winery, the beach on the Mediterranean Sea, a canoeing adventure in the Herald River gorge and visited other historic places in Montpellier.
"It was an unbelievable trip," said Cole. "My favorite part besides playing in the games was the canoeing adventure in Montpellier and the bike tour of Paris."
