Pointers’ Big First Half Too Much for Kingsmen to Overcome

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Wis.-Stevens Point Pointers jumped out to an early 24-5 lead and coasted the rest of the way as they defeated the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen 76-57 Friday night on day one of the Cal Lutheran Holiday Classic.  

The Pointers made their mark early with great shooting from the field. They ended the game 52-percent from the field and 44-percent from three-point range. They were also 16-of-19 from the free throw line. 

The bright spot of the night for the Kingsmen was Kyle Ferreira scoring a team-high 19 points. He was 8-of-14 from the field and 3-for-5 from three-point range. He added five rebounds and three assists.

Austin Cole was the only other Kingsmen to score in double-digits as he had 10. Jared Wulbrun hit two three-pointers and scored six points. Brandon Danziger scored his first points of the season as he made both of his shots and a free throw for a total of five points. Palmer Chaplin tied for the game-high in rebounds with eight. 

Wis.-Stevens Point came out on fire and took a 12-0 lead to start the game. The pointers kept scoring in bunches and had a 24-5 lead just six minutes into the game. They coasted the rest of the half and had a 43-25 lead. The Pointers kept the pressure on in the second half and wouldn't let the Kingsmen back in the game. Wis.-Stevens Point won the game with a final score of 76-57.

Cal Lutheran (2-6) returns to the court tomorrow on day two of the Cal Lutheran Holiday Classic. The Kingsmen take on Whitman at 8 p.m.
