Holley, Kling, Knight Earn SCIAC Athlete of the Week

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — California Lutheran University student-athletes Janna HolleyKayla Kling and Katie Knight were selected Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning. 

Holley was the Women's Baskeetball Offensive Athlete of the Week, Kling was named the Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week and Knight was the Women's Water Polo Offensive Athlete of the Week. 

Holley (Winnetka, Calif.) was named SCIAC Athlete of the Week for the second time this year. The freshman was instrumental in sealing the final SCIAC Tournament berth for Cal Lutheran as she averaged 12.5 points with 3.5 assists per game, shooting 45 percent from the floor and sinking four three-pointers. She hit the game-winning layup coming out of a timeout with seven seconds remaining to lift the Regals over host Pomona-Pitzer in a 60-58 victory.

Kling (Nipomo, Calif.) earned her first Athlete of the Week honor. The sophomore grinded out a pair of crucial victories, including the clinching point, as Cal Lutheran edged out Westmont College by a score of 5-4. She teamed with Reya Maestas to claim a 6-1, 7-6 (6) victory in doubles before rallying for a hard-fought 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 win in singles.

Knight (Houston, Texas) garnered the first Athlete of the Week award in her career. The junior scored four goals on as many shots and drew three exclusions in a close defeat to Westcliff University. She tallied back-to-back scores to bookend halftime and chipped in her other two later in the third quarter to go with one steal.
