Muller, Veljacic Named Athlete of the Week

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — California Lutheran University student-athletes Sophia Muller and Isabella Veljacic was selected Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning. 

Muller (Culver City, Calif.) is the fourth Regal to garner a weekly SCIAC award and was the Women's Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week. Cal Lutheran has earned five weekly honors in all. The sophomore helped lead the Regals to a 3-0 week, defeating Caltech 3-1, Pomona-Pitzer 3-2 and Whittier 3-2. Muller recorded 42 kills, 3.00 average per set, and added 35 digs, 11 blocks, four assists and three aces. She recorded her fourth and fifth double-double of the year with 13 kills and 17 digs against Caltech and 15 kills and 12 digs versus Pomona-Pitzer. Muller just missed a triple-double as she recorded nine blocks in the game against Pomona-Pitzer.

Veljacic (Monterey Park, Calif.) was named the SCIAC Women's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week for the third time this season. The Regals have earned five weekly honors this season. The senior helped Cal Lutheran defeat Pomona-Pitzer 2-0, giving the Sagehens their first loss in conference play. Veljacic put the finishing touch on the game as she scored in the 90th minute. The Regals are currently in the No. 2 spot in conference, and would host a semifinal game in the SCIAC Tournament, if the season ended today.
