THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.— Over 120 golfers participated in the fifth annual Victory Club Golf Tournament which took place Monday at the Moorpark Country Club.
This year's golf tournament consisted of a helicopter ball drop, 18 holes of golf and several contests that included longest drive, putting and closest to the pin. Numerous Cal Lutheran coaches and student-athletes volunteered to help support the event. The cheer team helped with the silent and live auction as well as the raffle drawings.
The day started with the helicopter ball drop. The athletics department sold 189 balls that were dropped from a helicopter onto a practice green and the ball that went into the hole or is closest to the hole won half of the money collected. The winner was Felix Wang, General Manager of The Thousand Oaks Inn.
After the 18 rounds of golf, the event continued with 49 silent auction items as well as 14 raffles consisting of golf clubs and Hawaiian snack packs.
The live auction items included a Mazatlan, Mexico getaway, LA Rams tickets and a signed Jared Goff jersey, a South Lake Tahoe getaway and an Oakland Raiders package which included an Amari Cooper signed helmet, Marshawn Lynch signed jersey and a Derek Carr signed football.
The 2018 golf tournament had tee sponsors at every hole. There were also five general sponsor levels, the National Champion tee sponsor was Mondo Sport and Flooring. Thousand Oaks Inn and Sports Academy were also major sponsors. Pegasus Transportation was a West Regional Champion Sponsor. The SCIAC Champion sponsor was BSN. The Coaches Circle sponsors were Jones Covey Group, Hillcrest Financial Group/Thrivent and the Campus Bookstore. The banner sponsors were Shawn Howie, Waddell & Reed Inc., The Bailey Family, Hampton Inn and Suites (Thousand Oaks), Total Tennis Academy, BEI Construction, Waste Management, It's In The Sauce, Farmers & Market Bank, Ventura County Deputy Sherriff Association and Sodexo.
The funds raised from the Victory Club Golf Tournament will go to help support all 22 intercollegiate sport programs at Cal Lutheran to help enhance the student athlete experience.
