Brewer, Sanchez Sweep SCIAC Swimmers of the Week

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. — Junior Ben Brewer and senior Grace Sanchez combined to take home five events in the first meet of 2019, leading Cal Lutheran to a sweep of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week awards, announced Monday afternoon.

Brewer led the Kingsmen with three first-place finishes and contributed to the team's 191.5-149.5 victory at the Chris Knorr Invitational this past weekend. He got things going Friday afternoon with a first-place finish in the 1650-free, touching the wall at 16:48.08. The following day, he continued to shine in the freestyle events, taking home the title in both the 200-free (1:46.82) and 500-free (4:49.91).

On the Regals side, Sanchez picked up four podium finishes of her own in her season debut. She took first in both the 50-free (25.17) and 100-free (58.06), then later joined with her relay teams to add on two additional silver finishes in the 400-medley relay (4:22.14) and 400-freestyle relay (3:59.11).

Kingsmen and Regals Swim and Dive returns to action Saturday, January 12, against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens for their first SCIAC dual of 2019. Events start at 10:30 a.m. PST in Claremont, California.
