Meyer, Serrano, Wright Earn SCIAC Athlete of the Week Honors

ALISO VIEJO, Calif.– This morning the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced the Week 28 Athlete of the Week honorees and Cal Lutheran's Bailey Meyer, Olivia Serrano and Tanner Wright all garnered an award.

Meyer was named the Water Polo Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and the fourth time in her career. Wright, of Kingsmen baseball, garnered his first SCIAC Hitter of the Week award. He has also been named the D3Baseball.com Third Baseman of the Week this year. Serrano earned her first-ever Pitcher of the Week award for softball. 

Meyer (Santa Ana, Calif.) helped the Regals to a 2-0 week as they defeated Redlands (15-4) and Macalester (9-2). Against Redlands, she recorded 16 saves and two steals. Versus Macalester, she recorded 13 saves, one steal and three assists. She has 812 saves for her career and is just the second Regal to surpass 800. The top mark in program history is 893. The senior goalkeeper has held 10 opponents to five-points or less and has tallied double-digit saves in 14 games.

Serrano (Oxnard, Calif.) pitched a complete game against Occidental and got the 5-4 win. She recorded 7.0 innings and struck out four batters while only giving up four earned runs.  The junior also pitched 5.0 innings against No. 10 Williams and only gave up six hits with three earned runs. CLU went 2-4 on the week, picking up wins against Williams (3-1) and Occidental. The Regals fell to Williams (6-5), Denison (6-4 and 11-4) and Occidental (11-3).

Wright (Las Vegas, Nev.) led the Kingsmen to a 4-0 week and series sweep of Pomona-Pitzer to move to first in the SCIAC standings. The infielder is on a seven-game hitting streak and four-game multi-hit streak. He leads the team (min. 3 games played) with an overall .466 BA, .512 OBP, 34 hits, 6 doubles, three triples, and eight stolen bases. This week alone, the sophomore went 12-for-20 at the plate (.600 BA/.636 OBP/ .850 SLG) with three doubles, a triple, four RBI and three stolen bases.

The SCIAC Athlete of the Week series is released each Monday throughout the academic year.
