THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — A hero and a Kingsmen. Justin Meek was the truest example of both. Though words fall short of describing the character of the former Cal Lutheran water polo player, his love showed as he laid down his life to protect others, including his younger sister Victoria Rose, on November 7 at Borderline. 

"Justin played like he lived; Heroically.  He worked hard.  He was self-motivated.  He was a great 'team' player.  He was extremely proud of his little sister Victoria Rose.  And he was an absolute lover of CLU Water Polo. Though his career was cut short due to an injury, he still loved coming to the games and even sang the national anthem before one of our games.  I consider Justin an American hero who gave the ultimate sacrifice saving others," said head CLU water polo coach Craig Rond.

"I would describe Justin as someone who wasn't afraid to be himself, and loved bringing smiles to others faces. I remember there was this time that he dressed up as Elvis for the Cal Lu Palooza, and sang just like Elvis, with the hip swings and all, truly just taking on the character. It was the coolest thing I'd ever seen and I thought it was awesome that he was willing to do that too. I don't think I'd ever seen him frown and his smile was contagious," shared former teammate and friend Jack Kirby.

"He will instantly become your friend. He would constantly put others in front of himself without seeking appreciation," said former teammate Mike Potter, "I met him 6 years ago when was considering CLU water polo. We talked about strengths and weaknesses. I told him what he needed to work on and when he came in as a freshman it was clear he worked on the aspects we talked about. He will do anything to achieve his goals, without putting anyone down, but by learning humbly from others."

Meek had plans of joining the Coast Guard, and though he never had his chance to don his blues, he is and always will be regarded a hero.
