THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - For four years, Cal Lutheran women's soccer player Kiki Bailey has donned the Violet and Gold as the Regals goalkeeper. Her leadership shined through as a captain and her success has earned her individual recognitions while guiding the team to three league titles and as many NCAA Division III appearances.
Her decision to attend Cal Lutheran was a well-thought about one because of the opportunities that a D-III institution presented the Los Angeles, Calif. native.
"I chose Division III because I wanted to play soccer and focus on my academics at the same time," she went on, "Being a student-athlete has helped me with time management, working with a variety of people on and off the field and gaining the confidence to lead others and meet challenges head on."
As the CLU goalie, Bailey played in 75 games with 66 career starts as the goalkeeper. She was a wall for Cal Lutheran as the starting keeper for three seasons and this year moved into third all-time at CLU with 220 saves. Throughout her career she recorded 23 solo shutouts with 10 in 2012, seven in 2013 and six in 2014 to finish second all-time.
Her name appears multiple times in the single-season record books as she is seventh in a single-season with 81 saves, which she recorded twice, once in 2013 and once this season. In 5,786:22 minutes of action she produced a 50-11-4 record with a career .818 saves percentage by allowing just 49 goals (.76 goals per game) for the Regals. Additionally, she recorded an assist in 2012 against Pomona-Pitzer (Sept. 19) for the only one of her career.
She was part of three consecutive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) titles between 2011 and 2013, which she noted were her greatest personal sports moments, and made four SCIAC Postseason Tournament appearances with one title in 2011. The Regals have traveled to three NCAA Tournaments in her tenure and she described "freezing in Iowa for the Playoffs" as her most vast memory of her time as a CLU student-athlete. After a standout senior season she was recognized individually as a Second Team All-SCIAC selection.
When asked what she enjoys most about playing her sport she replied, "Traveling and playing with teammates."
"I will never forget the team trips we went on and the lifelong friends I have made while attending and playing soccer at CLU," she said.
Off the field and away from team trips, Bailey has succeeded in the classroom as a liberal studies major. She has appeared on the Dean's List and was influenced by her third grade teacher to become an elementary school teacher herself.
Beyond her academic and athletic involvement, Bailey has given back to the community as part of the National Charity League, a mother-daughter charity organization that focuses on empowering members to be confident, well-rounded and socially aware contributors in their communities while fostering mother-daughter relationships.
During the course of Division III Week (April 6-12), CLUSports will be distributing a series of student-athlete related materials via Social Media (links below) and on www.clusports.com.
