THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The first of many busy weekends on the campus of Cal Lutheran is slated for this Saturday, Sept. 20 in which the Hall of Fame Induction ceremony, football home opener, volleyball conference opener and men's soccer game featuring Cancer Fit Inc. will all take place.
Festivities will begin at 10:00 a.m. inside of the Lundring Events Center where five former student-athletes will be honored. The football team will take the field for the first time of the season at William Rolland Stadium for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff, which was originally scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Cal Lutheran (0-1) is set to host Willamette (Ore.) (1-0) for the first meeting between the teams since 2009. The Kingsmen will look to add their first win of the season while snapping a three-meeting losing skid against the Bearcats who hold an overall 3-1 historical advantage. In week one, CLU fell to No. 17 Pacific Lutheran while WU defeated Trinity (Tex.) 34-10 in their Homecoming game to start the season. For those wishing to watch from afar the game will be live streamed with a video broadcast and live stats. You can also read head coach Ben McEnroe's preview about the game here.
Inside of the Gilbert Arena at 6:00 p.m. the No. 3 Cal Lutheran volleyball team will host Pomona-Pitzer (6-4, 0-1 SCIAC) in the first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match of the year for the Regals. With an 11-1 record entering league action, CLU has looked to a plethora of contributors to get to that point, earning five victories over Top-25 teams. The Regals have been led by Allie Eason, who earned SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors on Sept. 9. On the court will be some of the most talented athletes in the conference and country. Live video of the match is scheduled.
Rounding out the exciting day of home contests will be a men's soccer game against Pomona-Pitzer (4-1-1, 2-0-1 SCIAC) at 7:00 p.m. inside of Rolland Stadium. In conjunction with Cancer Fit, Inc., founded by Robb Bolton '93 and his wife, Elle, the Kingsmen will host Childhood Cancer Awareness Night. All attendees are encouraged to wear gold, the color that represents Childhood Cancer Awareness, as we honor local families. Be sure to get there early as the organization is hosting a Marrow Drive at the entrance beginning at 6:00 p.m. before Abby and Tim Ward ('93) sing the national anthem. The duo will also be performing a tribute song at halftime. Cal Lutheran (2-2-2, 1-1-1) is looking for a second SCIAC win while PP hopes to remain undefeated in league play. A live video stream will be available.
Also competing for CLU on Saturday will be men's and women's cross country and women's soccer. Runners will toe the line for the Mustang Challenge in Santa Clarita at 8:00 a.m. while the Regals will face off with La Verne on the road at 7:00 p.m.
