Kingsmen Place Second; Three Kingsmen in Top-10

CHINO HILLS, Calif. — The No. 20 Cal Lutheran men's golf team finished second at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships (SCIAC), led by Tyler Ferrier as he tied for fifth. The Championships were Sunday through Tuesday at the Los Serranos Country Club.

The 54-hole tournament featured eight teams and 48 individuals. The golfers shot 18 holes each day. The Par of the course was 72.

After moving up thirteen on Monday with a 3-under-par 69 performance, Tyler Ferrier held onto fifth with a team-leading 72 in round three to finish the championships one-over-par (76-69-72-217). He notched a total of eight birdies and 37 pars, the fourth highest number amongst all competitors. He also placed third on Par 4, averaging 4.03 strokes per hole, and seventh on Par 3, averaging an even three.

Cal Lutheran's Drake Jones and Ryan Kyaw made it three Kingsmen in the top-10 as they tied for 10th at 4-over-par. Jones and Kyaw also tied for the most birdies on the team with nine.

Jones shot a 77 on day one, a 74 on day two and was in 23rd. He fired a 69 over the final round, recording four birdies, and jumped up 13 spots and into the tie for 10th with 220 strokes.

Kyaw made his move on the second day. He shot a 76 over the first 18 and then shot a 71 as he moved up seven spots and tied for 11th. On the final round, he shot a 73, moved up one spot and finished with 220 strokes.

Drew Christofferson made it four Kingsmen in the top-20 as he tied for 19th. He rounded out the CLU team score, while improving each day, and finished at 8-over-par (79-74-71-224).

Jake Rosen and Slater Sivage also competed for the Kingsmen. Rosen tied for 28th at 11-over-par (78-73-76-227) and Sivage tied for 36th at 16-over-par (74-79-79-232).

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the SCIAC Championships at 9-over-par (286-282-287-855). Cal Lutheran was second at 11-over-par (303-287-285-875) and Redlands was third at 13-over-par (291-285-301-877). Jake Hollander of Redlands took home the individual title at 6-under-par (71-67-72-210). CMS golfer Johnny Brandt was second at 5-under-par (68-71-72-211). Jonathan Shaw of CMS and Cameron Cooper of Redlands tied for third at Even.

The yearly standings for the SCIAC are determined by the total amount of strokes at the SCIAC No. 1, the No. 2 and the Championships. For the overall standings, CMS is first (2,020 strokes), La Verne finished second (2,053), Redlands is third (2,059) and Cal Lutheran came in fourth (2,064).
