LA VERNE, Calif. — California Lutheran freshman Slater Sivage tied for second and led the Kingsmen to a third-place finish at the West Cup which was held Monday and Tuesday at the Sierra La Verne Country Club.
The tournament featured 17 teams and 85 individuals. The golfers shot 36 holes Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday. The Par of the course was 71.
Sivage shot a 75 in the first-round and then fired a 1-under-par 70 in the second. His 70 tied for the second-lowest-round at the tournament. He started the final round tied for first. He shot a 72 over the last 18 holes and tied for second at 4-over-par with 217 strokes. He recorded 10 birdies, which tied for the second most birdies. He finished one shot behind the leader.
Senior Tyler Ferrier made it two Kingsmen in the top-10. Ferrier shot 11-over par as he tied for ninth. He shot a 74 in round one and then a 75 in rounds two and three.
As a team, Cal Lutheran finished at 19-over-par with 970 strokes. They shot a 308, 296 and 303 in the three rounds, respectively. The second round of 296 tied for the lowest round of the tournament. Guilford College won the event at 39-over-par (299-301-291-891) and La Verne was second at 13-over-par (301-301-297-899). The Kingsmen tallied the second-most birdies with 29. They also had the best average on Par 4 holes with a score of 4.30.
CLU's Ryan Kyaw tied for 26th at 19-over-par (80-74-78-232) and Andrew McLean rounded out the team score 21-over-par (79-77-78-234). He tied for 31st. Drake Jones also competed for the Violet and Gold. He tied for 58th at 29-over-par (82-81-79-242).
Up next for Cal Lutheran is the SCIAC No. 2. The Kingsmen travel to Pasadena, Calif., and will compete April 9-10 at the Brookside Golf Club.
