Kingsmen defeat Bulldogs and Leopards at San Marcos Invitational

VISTA, Calif. — California Lutheran's Tyler Ferrier fired a 1-under-par 71 in round three as he jumped twelve people and finished in a tie for ninth at 5-over-par at the CSU San Marcos Invitational which was held Monday and Tuesday at Shadowridge Country Club.

The tournament featured 16 teams and 80 individuals, including Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponents La Verne and Redlands. It is the first golf tournament of the Kingsmen.

Ferrier shot back-to-back 75s in the first two rounds on Monday. He turned around and shot the 71, including four birdies against three bogeys, on Tuesday to jump twelve people in front of him. Altogether, he finished at 5-over-par (221). He finished with the third-best scoring average on a Par 3 at even (3.00).  

Drake Jones and Ryan Kyaw finished second and third for the Kingsmen. Jones finished the tournament at 12-over par and in a tie for 30th-place (74-77-77-228). Kyaw finished the tournament with the second-most par made as he putted in 38. He tied for 49th at 17-over-par (81-76-76-233).

Zane Jarrett rounded out the team score for CLU. He tied for 58th at 20-over-par (81-76-79-236). Slater Sivage also competed for the Kingsmen and finished in a tie for 65th at 23-over-par (80-82-77-239).

As a team, CLU shot 310 in the first round and 304 in the second. The Violet and Gold were six strokes behind La Verne going into the final day. The Kingsmen fired a 301, compared to La Verne's 310, and moved past the Leopards and into the 10th spot. CLU finished the tournament as 51-over par (310-304-301-915). La Verne (306-302-310-918) and Redlands (315-302-304-921) were right behind the Kinsgmen.

CSU San Marcos, the host, won the tournament at 11-over-par (286-294-295-875). Individually, Cal State Monterey Bay's Elis Svard took home the title and finished at 7-under-par (68-70-71-209). CSU San Marcos' Chris Tuulik was second and one stroke back (70-66-74-210). Chico State's Josh McCollum was third at 2-under-par (71-70-73-214).

The Kingsmen have some time off before they return to action. CLU's host its next event, which is set for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 17-18, at Olivas Links Golf Course in Ventura, Calif.
