Kingsmen Win Centenary/Hal Sutton Invite; Ferrier and Kyaw Tie for Second

BOSSIER CITY, La. — The No. 23 California Lutheran men's golf team won the Centenary/Hal Sutton Invite as the Kingsmen finished with a two-day total of 38-over-par at The Golf Club at Stonebridge. Teammates Tyler Ferrier and Ryan Kyaw led CLU as the duo tied for second at 9-over-par.

The tournament was held Monday and Tuesday with each golfer shooting 18 holes on each day. The Par was 72. The invite featured eight teams and 43 individuals.

        

The Kingsmen placed four golfers in the top-five as the they claimed their first tournament win of the season. CLU started the invite by shooting a 301, the lowest round of any team. On day two, they shot the best round of the day as well and recorded a 313. The Violet and Gold finished with 614 strokes and was the team champion.

Ferrier led the Kingmen on day one as was tied for first after he fired a 73. He shot an 80 on day two and finished at 9-over-par with 153 strokes and tied for second.

Kyaw shot a 78 on the first day and was tied for seventh. He bounced back and shot a 75 on the final day. He moved up five spots as he tied for second.

Cal Lutheran's Drake Jones and Slater Sivage made it four Kingsmen in the top five as they finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Jones shot a 75 and a 79 as he finished at 10-over-par with 154 strokes. Sivage was right behind him as he shot a 76 and 79. He tallied 155 strokes and was at 11-over-par.

All five Kingsmen finished in the top-10 as Brian Helmuth ended his tourney tied for 10th. He shot a 77 in the first round and an 82 in the second. He recorded a score of 15-over-par with 159 strokes.

Tyler Junior College's Will Traylor won the individual title at 4-over-par (73-75-148). Next was Ferrier and Kyaw.

On the team side, CLU was first at 38-over-par. After the Kingsmen was Tyler Junior College. The Apache's finished at 49-over-par (307-318-625). Rounding out the top-three was Jacksonville College (TX). The Jaguars recorded a score of 54-over-par (316-314-630).

Next up for Cal Lutheran is the West Cup Invitational. The Kingsmen travel to La Verne, Calif., for a two-day tournament Monday and Tuesday at the Sierra La Verne Country Club.
