Conference Championship, Berth at NC Water Polo Championship Highlight Water Polo Seniors

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.— Going for their second straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) title and shot at a Division III Championship, Cal Lutheran women's water polo team had their chance taken from them.

The three seniors, Christin Hirn, Victoria Rose Meek and Mackenzie Thomas, helped put the Regals on top of the D-III poll. The trio experienced many feats during their careers, as they won a conference championship in 2019, went to the postseason every year, and recorded the best record in program history, 21-9, twice.

The Regals were primed for another big run with the seniors leading the way, having an 8-4 record, and defeated many Division I and II teams outside of conference. The Purple and Gold were undefeated in SCIAC play at 2-0 as they looked to continue their hold on the conference.

Hirn (Simi Valley, Calif.) has been instrumental for the offense and the defense. She has started 69 games and played in 97 during four years as an attacker. She came in her freshman year and was immediately put into the pool. During the Purple and Gold's SCIAC Championship season in 2019, she totaled 27 goals, 13 assists, 29 steals, six drawn ejections and 10 field blocks. For her career, she has 79 goals, 39 assists, 74 steals, 36 drawn ejections and 20 field blocks. She has been inducted into the CLU Scholar-Athlete Society every year.

Meek (Coronado, Calif.) has raked in the awards during her four-year career and was selected First Team All-America by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches in 2018. She was named All-America Honorable Mention (2019), Second Team All-SCIAC (2018) and CoSIDA Academic All-District (2018 & '19). While playing center, she has the fourth most drawn ejection in program history with 184. For a season, she tied for the seventh most with 60 and 10thmost with 56. During Cal Lutheran's SCIAC Championship season in 2019, she totaled 29 goals, three assists, 16 steals, 43 drawn ejections and two field blocks. For her career, she has 104 goals, 19 assists, 59 steals, 184 drawn ejections and two field blocks. She has been inducted into the CLU Scholar-Athlete Society every year.

Thomas (Redondo Beach, Calif.) was a big contributor, for the moment she jumped into the pool, on offense and defense. The attacker has played in 94 games, making 36 starts during four seasons. During the Regals' SCIAC Championship season in 2019, she totaled 26 goals, 10 assists, 44 steals, six drawn ejections and two field blocks. Her 44 steals led a defense that held eight opponents to five points or less. For her career, she has 50 goals, 40 assists, 88 steals, 31 drawn ejections and 13 field blocks. She is a member of the CLU Scholar-Athlete Society.
