Regals Water Polo Looking to Defend SCIAC Title in 2020

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.— The Cal Lutheran women's water polo team opens 2020 as the No. 1 team in the nation, according to the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA). 

The 2020 schedule will challenge the Regals with top competition over the first few weeks before the Purple and Gold jump into conference play. 

Cal Lutheran starts the season at the Fresno State Invite, held Feb. 22-23, and will take on Fresno State, Azusa Pacific and Fresno Pacific. Fresno State is Division I while Azusa and Fresno Pacific are D-II.

After opening the season on the road, the Regals host their season opener on Feb. 27 against Long Island at 11 a.m. 

At the end of the month, Feb. 28-29, CLU host its annual Tina Finali Memorial Tournament. The Regals take on Chapman and Indiana (Big Ten, D-I) on the 28 at 11:15 a.m. and 4:15 p.m., respectively. On the 29th, CLU gets Fresno Pacific at 8:45 a.m. and Lindenwood at 6:45 p.m.

Cal Lutheran has one more tournament and it's the next weekend, Jan. 7-8. The Regals travel to Bloomington, Ind., for the Hoosier Invite. CLU will take on Ottawa (AZ), McKendree and Indiana.

 The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) grind consists of 14 games, as the Regals look to defend their 2019 title.

The conference home game's include Chapman (Feb. 28), Pomona-Pitzer (March 14), Redlands (March 18), Occidental (March 25), Whittier (March 28), Caltech (April 8) and Senior Day is versus La Verne (April 18). 

The SCIAC Tournament is May 1 & 3 with the conference winner and runner-up advancing to the Division III National Tournament.
