Regals defeat McKendree, Fall to Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.— Cal Lutheran women's water polo opened the day by defeating McKendree 14-10 before falling to Indiana 20-3 on Saturday afternoon.

It was day one of the Indiana Hoosiers Tournament and the Regals (6-4 ) continued their tear of Division III opponents and took on Division I, Indiana, for the second straight week. 

In the first game of the day, the Regals won their fourth straight game. Kim Reidel led the Purple and Gold against McKendree with four goals. Lexi Rond was next with a hat trick and added a team-high 6 drawn ejections. 

Defensively, the Regals prevailed as Reidel, Kaitlin Gardhouse, Elyse Koe, Rond, Kemi Dijkstra and Rachel Ray tallied two steals each. Kaitlin Moreno was in the cage for the first time this season and picked up her first win after recording eight saves. 

The Regals took control of the game in the first quarter, scoring the first five goals of the game, and took control. The offense and defense flowed perfectly together as the Regals had a 8-2 lead at the half. The first quarter set the tone for the game as the Regals won the game 14-10. 

Cal Lutheran used the game against Indiana to learn and get better as the D-I opponent overpowered the Regals. Rond tallied two goals and three drawn ejections, Victoria Rose Meek added three drawn ejections and Mackenzie Thomas had two steals. Moreno was back in goal and had six saves.

The Regals continue the tournament on Sunday and take on Mercyhurst at 7:30 a.m. PST.
