Regals Battle Tigers, Five Singles Matches Go Three Sets

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's tennis got back into conference play, but came up just short and fell to Occidental 6-3 on Friday afternoon. 

The Regals scored one point in doubles play. Luisa Garcia and Lauren Sebastian earned the first point for Cal Lutheran and won 8-5 at the No. 2. 

However, the Tigers took the lead heading into singles. Carmen Bufkin and Mina Ahmadi fell 2-8 at the No. 1 and Reya Maestas and Kayla Kling were defeated 7-8 (5-7) at the No. 3. 

Cal Lutheran looked to bounce back in singles. Sebastian and Ahmadi both took a win in their respective spot. Sebastian won 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 at the No. 3 and Ahmadi won 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 at the No. 4. 

The Tigers scored the rest of the points and took the match. Bufkin lost 5-7, 6-2, 4-6 at the No. 1, Garcia fell 0-6, 5-7 at the No. 2, Maestas was taken down 6-1, 5-7, 2-6 at the No. 5, and Kling was defeated 6-3, 3-6, 4-6 at the No. 6.  

The Regals continue their season, and conference play, on the road. Cal Lutheran is at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday at 2 p.m.
