THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's tennis opened the 2023 season with a win as the Regals defeated Lewis & Clark 8-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The Regals picked up a nice win as they nearly swept the Pioneers. Four of Cal Lutheran's first five matches are at home.
Cal Lutheran swept doubles play as Carmen Bufkin and Reya Maestas won 8-2 at the No. 1 spot, Gerda Jucys and Luisa Garcia won 8-1 at the No. 2 and Henna Levanen and Mina Ahmadi won 8-2 at the No 3.
The Regals carried that momentum into singles play. Bufkin won 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot, Garcia win 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 3, Kayla Kling won 6-4, 1-6, 11-9 at the No. 3, Maestas won 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 at the No. 5 and Levanen won 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 6.
The Pioneers lone point came at the No. 2 as Ahmadi was defeated 2-6 6-7(6).
The Regals hit the road for their next contest. Cal Lutheran is at Westmont on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
