Regals Take Down Westmont for Second Straight Win

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.  – Kayla Kling got the clinch as Cal Lutheran women's tennis defeated Division II Westmont 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon. The Regals improve to 2-0 on the season.

The Regals got off to a strong start as they took two of the three singles matches. Carmen Bufkin and Luisa Garcia won the No. 1 spot and Reya Maestas and Kling took the No. 3 6-1 and 7-6 (8-6), respectively. 

Westmont then took the lead in singles as Mina Ahmadi fell 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3 as did Garcia  with 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 3. 

The Regals fired back and regained the lead. Maestas won the No. 5 with 6-2, 6-1 and Henna Levanen took the No. 6 with 6-4, 6-2. 

After Bufkin was defeated 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 1, the duel came down to the No. 4 spot. Kling went the distance and won it for her team as she took the matchup 4-6, 7-5, 7-5.

The Regals look to make it three straight wins to start the year as they host Colorado Col. Thursday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m.
