Regals Ready for a Tee-rrific 2018

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The California Lutheran women's golf team has a lot of experience coming back for the 2018 season as they look to compete for a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship.

The Regals have seven student-athletes back that look to improve on their fourth-place finish in 2017. Three Regals earned All-SCIAC Selections this past year. The team also has two fresh faces.

The lone senior on the team is Courtney Martin. In the fall, Martin shot a low-round of four-over par (76) at the CA State Invitational. At the Al and Nancy Jones Memorial she helped the team tie for fourth and she finished tied for 19^th. In 2016-17, she averaged a score of 87.83 over 11 rounds of play.

CLU has two junior as Lauren Fesler and Ally Gaskill look for expanded roles in 2018. Gaskill earned Second Team All-SCIAC honors a year ago. She averaged a score of 82.07 over 15 rounds of play.

The sophomore class is the biggest and returns four student-athletes in Delaney Buck, Marissa McCardell, Erica Mitchell and Hannah Pasco.

Buck and McCardell both earned Second Team All-SCIAC last year. In 2017, Buck averaged 84.67 over 17 rounds of play. She shot a season-best score of 76 at the SCIAC Championships. McCardell averaged a team-best of 81.68 over 19 rounds of play. She was only one of two Regals to play 19 rounds. She tied for eighth at the Al and Nancy Jones Memorial in September.

In the fall, Mitchell had a top-10 finish as she took 10^th-place at the CA State Invitational. She fired rounds of 75 and 76, which is her career-best of 151 strokes for 36 holes.

The Violet and Gold welcome two new faces to the program. Bryttney Avella (Corona, Calif.) and Erica Cornelius (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) look to jump right in and make an impact for the Regals.

Cal Lutheran opens the season Sunday, Feb. 4, at the Point Loma Invitational in San Diego, Calif., at 8 a.m.
