SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — California Lutheran's Marissa McCardell fired an 11-over-par to lead the Regals to a third-place finish at the SCIAC No. 1 which was held Saturday and Sunday at Arrowhead Country Club.
The tournament consisted of seven teams and 44 individuals, all from the SCIAC. La Verne had three individuals compete so they didn't qualify for a team score. The golfers played 18 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday. The Par was 72.
McCardell was in first after day one as she shot a 3-over-par 75. Her score tied for the best round of the tournament. She had a one-stroke lead over second-place and a two-stroke advantage on third-place. She shot an 80 on the second and dropped back two spots and finished in third-place.
Ally Gaskill finished in the top-20 as she placed 19th. She shot an 86 on day one, but turned it around to shot an 80 on day two. She finished at 22-over-par with 166 strokes.
Erica Mitchell and Hannah Pasco were neck-and-neck for the Regals. Mitchell shot an 87 on day one and improved by shooting an 84 on day two. She finished in 24th-place at 27-over-par with 171 strokes. Pasco was right behind Mitchell as she finished 25th at 28-over-par (85-87-172).
Erica Cornelius was right in the mix with Mitchell and Pasco. She finished at 30-over par (88-86-174). Lauren Fesler also competed for the Violet and Gold. She ended her tournament in a tie for 34th at 36-over-par (90-90-180).
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Margaret Loncki won the individual title. She was in second after day one as she shot a 76. She shot a 75 on day two and finished at 7-over-par with 151 strokes. Redlands' Caroline Ordian was second at 11-over-par (77-77-154). McCardell rounded out the top-three.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps took home the team title. The Stags finished at 43-over-par (311-308-619). Pomona-Pitzer was second at 61-over-par (330-307-637. Cal Lutheran came away with third at 87-over-par (333-330-663).
CLU is home for the next tournament and host the Regals Invitational Monday and Tuesday, March 12-13, at the Sunset Hills Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
