THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The 2017-18 split Cal Lutheran men's and women's golf schedules are set to get underway on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 18-19 when the Kingsmen and Regals host the CA State Invitational at the Olivias Links Golf Course in Ventura, Calif.

The torch for a long-time event hosted by La Verne has been passed to Cal Lutheran for the first time. The tournament annually brings some of the best schools from the West coast together to compete in a single location.

"We are happy to host this co-ed event," head coach Jeff Lindgren shared. "Olivias is a great public course that will challenge the best college players."

The 2017 edition will feature a dozen teams on the men's side and 11 women's programs. Ten teams will send both men's and women's student-athletes, including Arizona Christian, Cal Lutheran, Chapman, George Fox (Ore.), La Verne, Marymount, Occidental, Ottawa of Arizona, Pomona-Pitzer and Whittier. The final two men's teams are Claremont-Mudd-Scripps the The Master's College while UC Santa Cruz will join the women's field.

Prior to the two-days of competition, which will take place on a 6818-yard, par-72 course for the men and a 6097-yard, par-72 course for the women, the teams will enjoy a pair of practice rounds, to acclimate to the layout, on Saturday and Sunday.

The Cal Lutheran men's roster features 11 returning golfers with a senior class of six that includes Jack Cavanagh, Tyler Ferrier, Brian Helmuth, Zane Jarrett, Andrew McLean and Ricardo Torres. A trio of junior, Nick Friend, Jake Rosen and Tyler Shuster and sophomores Drew Christofferson and Stefan Nelson will all suit up for the Violet and Gold again. Joining the group are sophomore transfer Craig Thorlakson and seven freshmen in David Hall (Ramona, Calif.), Brandon Jones (Santa Monica, Calif.), Drake Jones (Exeter, Calif.), Ryan Kyaw (Tarzana, Calif.), Jackson Marvell (Lakewood, Wash.), Slater Sivage (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Jeremy Snowden (Castle Pines, Colo.).

On the women's squad, Courtney Martin is the lone senior with Lauren Fesler representing the junior class. Sophomores Chloe Barnes, Delaney Buck, Marissa McCardell, Erica Mitchell and Hannah Pasco return with a year of collegiate experience. The roster is rounded out with a pair of freshmen in Bryttney Avella (Corona, Calif.) and Erica Cornelius (Laguna Niguel, Calif.).

Spectators are welcomed and encouraged, but please note that there is an $11 entry fee.

A week later, Sept. 25-26, the CLU teams will travel to Texas for the UT-Tyler Invitational. The Kingsmen will play the Hollytree Country Course while the women will navigate the course at the Cascades Country Club.
