PASADENA, Calif. — The California Lutheran women's golf team moved up three spots on the final day and finished fourth in the SCIAC No. 2 which was held Saturday and Sunday at the Brookside Golf Club. Marissa McCardell and Ally Gaskill finished sixth and tied for eighth, respectively.
The SCIAC No. 2 included seven teams and 44 individuals. The tournament had a Par of 72. Occidental hosted the event.
Cal Lutheran shot 334 strokes and were last after day one. The Regals had the third-best round on the final day as they moved up to fourth-place. CLU had 320 strokes on Sunday and finished at 78-over-par.
McCardell and Gaskill led the Regals as they made a big jump during the final 18 holes. McCardell shot an 80 on the first day. She bounced back on the final day and fired a 73. She moved up 10 spots and into sixth-place at 9-over-par with 153 strokes. Gaskill shot a 77 in the first round and a 79 in the second round. She tied for eighth at 12-over-par with 156 strokes.
Erica Mitchell was next for the Violet and Gold. She shot an 89 over the first 18. She made the biggest jump on day two as she fired a 79 and moved up 11 spots and into 23rd-place.
Lauren Fesler rounded out the team score as she finished in a tie for 33rd at 33-over-par (88-89-177). Erica Cornelius then tied for 37th at 38-over-par (93-89-182). Bryttney Avella competed individually and was 43rd at 49-over-par (94-99-193).
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the event at 33-over-par (301-308-609). Pomona Pitzer was the runner-up at 51-over-par (319-308-627) and Chapman was third at 67-over-par (321-322-643). Individually, Redlands' Caroline Ordian won at 5-over-par (78-71-149). CMS' Margaret Loncki (74-77-151) and Mira Yoo (74-77-151) tied for second at 7-over-par.
Up next for Cal Lutheran is the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships. The Regals will compete at the Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills, Calif., April 22-24, Sunday through Tuesday.
