Kingsmen Win 5-4 for Second Consecutive Match; Take 2-0 Series Lead

ORANGE, Calif. — Cal Lutheran Men's Tennis defeated Chapman 5-4 for the second consecutive on dual on Saturday. The Kingsmen take a 2-0 series lead.

With the Kingsmen down 4-3, it was up to Corey Karen at the No. 2 and Isaiah Volk at the 4. Both matches went to a third set as Karen tied the game with a score of 2-6, 7-5, 6-1. The clinch came at the No. 4 as Volk won 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

The dual started with doubles play and the Kingsmen took two of the three to take the early lead.

Karen and Jacob Bear earned the first point of the dual as they won their match at the No. 1 with a score of 8-3.

After Darvel Lossangoye and Ryan Murphy fell 8-7 (5) at the No. 2, Charlie Spina and Sean Yaghoubi took back the lead with their win at the No. 3. The duo won 8-7 (4) to give CLU a 2-1 lead.

Chapman scored the first two points in singles play and had their first lead of the dual. Shawn Rothermel lost at the No. 6 (6-3, 6-4) and Bear fell at the No. 3 (6-2, 6-2).

Cal Lutheran was quick to answer as Lossangoya won 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 5. The game continued to go back and forth as Chapman claimed the next point to make it 4-3. Spina retired at the No. 1. The rest is history as Karen and Volk won their matches.

Up next for the Kingsmen is Ventura College. The dual is set for 1 p.m. in Thousand Oaks.
