Kingsmen Fall in Rematch with Westmont Warriors

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — In a rematch with the Westmont Warriors, the Cal Lutheran men's team improved, but came up short and fell 5-2. 

CLU's Charlie Spina and Jacob Bear claimed the singles wins, while the duo of Darvel Lossangoye and Shawn Rothermel won their doubles match.

Spina and Bear won their matches in straight sets going 6-2, 6-2, and 6-1, 6-2, respectively. Spinna won his second match of the year at the No. 1 spot, and Bear took the No. 5, earning his first victory.

Lossangoye and Rothermel won their doubles match with a super set tiebreaker score of 7-6 (2). However, the match started in favor of Westmont as they claimed the doubles point by winning at the No. 1 and 2 spots. Cal Lutheran's Corey Karen and Bear fell at the No. 1 and Spina and Ryan Murphy were defeated at the No. 2.

In singles, the Purple and Gold lost four of the six matches. Murphy came to play and put up a fight. He was ultimately defeated at the No. 6 spot with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Also competing in singles was Karen at the No. 2 (6-2, 6-2), Lossangoye at the No. 3 (6-1, 6-4) and Rothermel at the No. 4 (6-0, 6-0).

Cal Lutheran is back in action on Saturday as the Kingsmen host D-II Concordia-Irvine on Saturday at 11 a.m.
