Kingsmen Travel to Biola; Fall to Eagles

LA MIRADA, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran men's tennis team had another tough test on Saturday as the Kingsmen fell to Division II Biola 7-0.

"The men played very well," said tennis head coach Mike Gennette. "They all improved in the last couple of weeks and have strong momentum as they build. All the teams are in a higher division than us this year, but we think we'll be very competitive with these Division II and higher teams all season long."

Biola claimed all three doubles matches and took the early 1-0 lead. Charlie Spina and Corey Karen fell at the No. 1 spot (6-3), Darvel Lossangoye and Shawn Rothermel fought hard at the No. 2 (7-6 (3)) and Jacob Bear and Ryan Murphy came up short at the No. 3 (6-4 (3)).

In singles, the Kingsmen were all defeated in straight sets. Spine was at the No. 1 (6-4, 6-2), Karen competed at the No. 2 (6-3, 6-3), Lossangoye was at the No. 3 (6-2, 6-3), Rothermel played at the No. 4 (6-3, 6-1), Bear came up short at the No. 5 (7-6 (6)) and Murphy put up a fight at the No. 6 (7-5, 6-4).

Up next for Cal Lutheran is Westmont. The Kingsmen travel to the Warriors on Wednesday with the dual set for 2 p.m.
